Zinc Plating is widely used to
provide protection for steel and other metals. It is deposited in thicknesses
ranging from 0.1 mils (.0001") to over 1.0 mils (.001") thick. The low cost,
protective quality and attractive look of zinc makes it a very popular finish
for fasteners, metal stampings, computer enclosures, automotive parts and many
other items.
Rack and Barrel Plating -
IEP does both rack and barrel processing.
Rack Plating is ideal for
larger and/or delicate parts which could be damaged in the barrel process. IEP
can rack plate parts up to 11 feet long.
Barrel Plating is more
applicable for smaller parts which will not be damaged as the plating barrel
slowly rotates in the various process solutions.
Both barrel and
rack processed parts will produce a very attractive and durable zinc plated
finish.
Chromate Coating
To
increase the corrosion protection of zinc, chromate coatings are normally
applied over the zinc. The chromate coatings come in various colors and offer
various amounts of protection.
Industrial Electroplating offers the following
chromates:
CLEAR - (sometimes
called ‘blue bright”)
A shiny silver color with a bluish tint, similar to
decorative chrome in appearance.
YELLOW - (sometimes
called iridescent or gold)
A yellow to gold
color with iridescence.
Offers more corrosion protection than
the clear
chromate.
BLACK - A very
attractive shiny black.
BLUE - A darker blue
to purple which is
used by many for part identification.
OLIVE DRAB - An olive green
color with
a higher amount of chrome
for increased corrosion
protection.

Other
Processes
Powder Coating
- Finely ground particles of pigment and
resin are electro statically charged and sprayed on a grounded part. The
curing cycle melts the powder fusing the coating for a durable high quality
finish.
Bright Dip on Brass - We can clean
and brighten up brass and then apply a protective film to prevent
tarnish.
Stripping and Cleaning - IEP can strip
old plating in order to replate or we can strip plating and apply oil to prevent
rust. We also clean rust and scale from parts.
Bake
to Relieve Hydrogen Embrittlement - As a result of
trapped hydrogen, hardened material and certain alloys can become brittle after
zinc plating. When required IEP can bake the plated material to remove the
trapped hydrogen from under the surface of the material.
Note: If IEP does not
have the process you are looking for then we can still help. We work closely
with other plating shops to direct clients to the supplier that can best meet
their needs.
Bright Nickel Plating is used
extensively for decorative purposes. It is also a very durable finish. The
combination of brightness and durability accounts for bright nickel being in
high demand on consumer goods and other manufactured
products.
